SUPERVISOR POSITION OPPORTUNITY
  STREETS AND BUILDING & GROUNDS SUPERVISOR

Environment

  • Organize, implement and direct street and building & grounds maintenance operations and activities. Interpret and explain pertinent department policies and procedures.Principles and practices of lawn and building maintenance
  • Develop cost estimates for supplies and equipment.
  • Perform the most complex maintenance duties and operate related equipment. Read and interpret maps, plans, sketches, schematics, diagrams and blueprints. Demonstrate tact and diplomacy with the public.
  • Develop and recommend systems and procedures related to assigned operations.
  • ​Supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.​
  • ​​Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Under general direction; organizes monitors and supervises street, storm drain
maintenance, operations within the Public Works and Building & Grounds Department; performs a variety of technical tasks relative to streets, storm drains and building & grounds maintenance; and provides technical assistance to the department directors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Physical

  • Street maintenance experience
  • Building maintenance experience
  • Lawn maintenance experience
  • Lead supervisory experience a plus
  • ​CDL License must be obtained

Work is performed in an indoor office setting and outdoor field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical & electrical hazards, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; work in or around water; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address Village needs and changing Village practices.

  • ​Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for street, street lighting, storm drain maintenance and operations and maintenance of Village properties and buildings.
  • ​Establish schedules and methods for providing maintenance of streets, storm drains and Village properties and buildings: identify resource needs, review needs with Mayor, trustees and appropriate staff and allocate resources accordingly.
  • ​Participate in the development of goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures; participate in the implementation of approved policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • ​Participate in the selection of street and building & grounds staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures for the department director.
  • Participate in the preparation and administration of the division’s budgets; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.​
  • ​Monitor and control supplies and equipment; recommends ordering supplies and tools as necessary; prepare documents for equipment procurement. 
  • ​Answer questions and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and
    recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.

  • ​Maintain records concerning operations and programs; prepare reports on operations and activities.
  • ​Coordinate with contractors in providing contract services; solicit and collect bids for new equipment and contracted maintenance work.
  • ​Perform related duties as required.
  • ​Plans daily and weekly work schedules related to the street department and building and grounds.
  • Monitors daily work activities, monitors weekly work schedules, make recommendations for changes and improvements to daily work schedules.​
  • ​​Performs additional duties as assigned by the Mayor or the Village Board.
